McDonald's to stop selling premium Angus burgers

Posted By KATE STANTON,   |   May 9, 2013 at 8:14 PM reported Thursday that the popular fast food chain will cut Angus burgers from its menu in favor of a larger Quarter Pounder line.

Concerns about the line's costliness -- $4.49 is expensive for McDonald's -- prompted the company's decision to drop the Angus Third Pounders, which were first introduced in 2009.

McDonald's blamed the country's "challenging eating out environment" on a 1.2 percent decline in U.S. sales in the first quarter.

The Angus Third Pounder line currently includes the Angus Deluxe burger, the Angus Bacon and Cheese and the Angus Mushroom and Swiss.

In related news, New Zealand McDonald's will no longer be selling the Serious Lamb Burger due to "poor demand."
