Kicking the habit: Colombian 'nuns' caught smuggling cocaine

Drug smugglers get more and more creative as others get busted -- but one cartel boss looked to solve the problem like Maria.

In Colombia, one cartel boss had his couriers dress up as nuns, according to the Miami New Times. He then had them stuff their new habits with cocaine.

The jig was up when security guards noticed the nuns in the airport at San Andres Island. San Andres is on a longtime cocaine route from Colombia to Nicaragua, according to the IB Times.

Security said the nuns looked nervous when they deplaned, and that the fabric of their habits looked different than traditional habits.

When police approached them, they dropped the sister act and began to cry. They said their own poverty had pushed them to get involved with the cartels.

Police found four pounds of cocaine tucked under their habits, strapped to their legs.

The three have been jailed on charges of drug trafficking.
