May 7 (UPI) -- After six seasons performing "Sunday Night Football's" opening credits, Faith Hill stepped down last month, saying in a tweet that it was "time 2 let someone else rock the open."

That person is fellow country singer Carrie Underwood, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

The 30-year-old "Blown Away" singer, who has six Grammys and 10 County Music Awards, told reporters that "it just seemed like a fun thing to do."

Underwood will still sing the theme "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," set to the tune of Joan Jett's 1988 hit, "I Hate Myself for Loving You," but said she'd put her on twist on the song.

"We want to make it sound different, like me. We want to be mindful of [Faith's version] and change it up," she said.

NBC welcomed Underwood to the team on Tuesday:

Underwood also took to Twitter to express her excitement, telling followers that she's "been a football fan [her] entire life":

"Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" plays at the start of each "Sunday Night Football" telecast on NBC.
