The Brooklyn Nets reached out to the legendary and retired Phil Jackson yesterday to replace recently-fired interim coach P.J. Carlesimo, according to NBA.com.

Carlesimo was fired after the Nets lost to the Chicago Bulls in round one of the NBA Playoffs. The Nets have tapped Jackson for his winning history -- as coach of the Bulls and the Lakers, he won 11 championships.

Last week, the Detroit Pistons said that Jackson would serve as an adviser during the team's own head coach search.

Jackson left the Lakers after their loss in the 2011 Playoffs to undergo treatment for prostate cancer.

The Nets approached Jackson last November after they fired Mike Brown, but Jackson was unsure whether he was ready to return to coaching. Rumors have surfaced that Jackson has expressed interest in getting back into basketball in a front-office role -- but that doesn't throw him out of the ring for coaching jobs.

Several other teams have reached out to Jackson, including the Toronto Raptors, who pitched him about becoming the team's president.
