Pfizer to sell Viagra online

By CAROLINE LEE, UPI.com

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced today that it will sell Viagra, a popular erectile dysfunction pill, online, according to CNN.

The little blue pill is Pfizer's most commonly counterfeited drug. Researchers at Pfizer found that nearly all of the top sites in search results for "buy Viagra" were selling counterfeit pills with far lower levels of the drug's active ingredients.

To combat the counterfeit pills, Pfizer is launching Viagra.com, which is powered by CVS Pharmacy and accepts insurance.

Ordering Viagra will require a prescription -- but the site has plans in the works for discounts for shopping directly, including three free pills for users' first orders and 30 percent off the second.

Pfizer does not have plans to sell its other drugs online at this time.

"We're going to learn from this and see where we go," spokeswoman Jennifer Kokrell said.

Pfizer is the first drugmaker to go online with its prescription sales.
