'Cops' leaving Fox network after 25 years, moving to Spike TV

After a quarter of a century on the Fox network, the law enforcement reality show will move to Spike TV.

"Cops" will leave the network that made it a hit for the last 25 years, TV Guide reported Monday. The landmark reality show about police officers on patrol is moving to cable network Spike TV this fall, after 25 seasons on Fox.

"Fox is changing its programming strategy," executive producer John Langley said of the network's decision to ditch the show for more sports programming.

So I was happy to find a new home with Spike. It matches our demo and it's an aggressive cable network. It's appointment viewing and people know we're on Saturday nights. They just have to turn the dial a little bit.

“As we continue to grow and expand our audience, new episodes of ‘Cops,’ with its loyal audience of Adults 18-49, is the perfect addition to our primetime lineup on Saturday nights,” Spike TV President Kevin Kay said of the acquisition.

The 26th season of "Cops" starts this September, with Spike TV airing the show in its original time slot: 8pm/7c on Saturday nights.
