May 5 (UPI) -- Pit bulls may get a bad rap, but one pit bull in Long Island, N.Y., is being hailed as a hero, after the family dog saved a woman from her burning home.

NBC News reported Saturday that the dog, named Cain, began barking loudly as flames engulfed the East Norwich home. Jackie Bonasera was upstairs drying her hair, and didn't notice the fire until she heard Cain's barking. Bonasera was then able to run out of the house unharmed.

"He's a pit bull, too," Bonasera's daughter, Alexis Stallworth said of Cain. "They have such bad reps, but he's such a good boy."

Another pit bull from Lincoln, Okla., saved her family from a fire back in February. Named Baby, the pit bull jumped on Rhonda and Evelyn Westenberger's beds until they woke up. Baby also returned to the burning home to rescue several other dogs.
