"Parenthood's" Lauren Graham may have a successful career on television, but according to a new interview with USA Today, she's just wanted "to make stuff up" for her new novel.

"Of course, it's a world I know," she added. "I was most interested in those tiny beats or steps that get you on your way when you're so unsure about your career."

Graham's new novel, "Someday, Someday, Maybe," which she describes as "girly," tells the story of an actress trying to make it in mid-1990s New York City.

But the 46-year-old actress promises that the book isn't about her.

"I went out of my way to make sure that the characters did not resemble anyone I know. The agent is not my agent. The boyfriend is not my boyfriend," she said. "I was so not interested in writing any kind of tell-all. If I wanted to do that, I would have just written a memoir and probably sold more copies.
