A new report in British tabloid The Sun claims that Katy Perry's father, a California preacher, called his daughter a "devil child" in a recent sermon.

“They ask how can I preach if I produce a girl who sang about kissing another girl?" Keith Hudson reportedly said to an audience in Sante Fe Springs, Calif. Perry's first hit, "I Kissed A Girl," dropped in 2008.

I was at a concert of Katy’s where there were 20,000. I’m watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church. I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They’re loving and worshipping the wrong thing.

Though the 28-year-old pop singer was born in a strict Christian household to parents who are both evangelical pastors, Perry has been very public about her support for gay rights.

"I came from a different mindset growing up, and my mind has changed," she told Parade magazine last year.

Perry has also said that spirituality is still a part of her life.

"I don't go to one particular church," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com last July.

"I'm open to the idea. It's just I haven't been able to in the past few years. But you know what? God is still inside of me and I still talk to Him every day," Perry said.
