Hofman's bright-yellow duck floated through the city's Victoria Harbor Thursday as thousands lined up to watch, CNN reported.

Hofman, a Dutch artist known for large-scale installations, said the duck represents a united world.

"We're one family and all the waters in the world is our global bathtub," he told reporters. "It joins people together."

"It also means we have to take care of each other and be responsible about this planet -- as you are responsible about your own bath," he added.

On his website, Hofman says the art project "has healing properties."

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

The duck's next stop is the United States, though Hofman has yet to reveal the exact location.
