Monkees announce 'Midsummer' reunion tour

The three surviving Monkees Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork will go on a cross country tour this summer, said a statement published in the band's website.

Called a "Midsummer's Night with the Monkees" the band promises the tour will be a "multimedia evening of magic, rare films and cherished memories," in which they will perform their classic hits, deep cuts and fan favorites.

Davy Jones, the fourth member of the original quartet, died in February 2012.

"The Monkees" are an American rock band who rose to fame in 1966 after starring in a television show of the same name. The band is mostly known for their hits "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer," "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Daydream Believer."

The "Midsummer" tour is set to begin July 15.
