Sarah Palin blasts nerd prom, calls White House Correspondents' Dinner 'pathetic'

While Barack Obama and Conan O'Brien cracked jokes at Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Dinner, Sarah Palin took to social media to slam the annual gathering of politicians, celebrities and DC's media elite.

Using the hashtag #nerdprom, a popular term for the dinner, Palin called the event "pathetic" and accused attendees of being self-congratulatory.

That #WHCD was pathetic. The rest of America is out there working our asses off while these DC assclowns throw themselves a #nerdprom

As CNN pointed out Sunday, Palin has never been to the actual dinner. But she did attend a Vanity Fair-Bloomberg News after-party in 2011.

The 49-year-old former governor of Alaska also railed against the dinner in a Facebook post:

Yuk it up media and pols. While America is buried in taxes and a fight for our rights, the permanent political class in DC dresses up and has a prom to make fun of themselves. No need for that, we get the real joke.
