Tourists taking in the view of the city from atop New York’s Empire State Building were shocked when a man fell from the observation deck, then landed a floor below.

Nathaniel Fimone fell from the observation deck of the Manhattan skyscraper just before midnight Wednesday. He fell from the 86th floor and landed on a catwalk just below it, between the 86th and 85th floors.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with the New York Daily News, Fimone, once he was on the catwalk, swung his legs into the air as if he meant to drop again.

“He was in his own world, like he was lost,” Argentinian tourist Luis Ariel Jofre said. “He was calm looking down, like it was nothing, but it was 80 stories high.”

A cop at the scene said the man suffered a broken ankle and cuts to his hands. FDNY officials said the man was transported to Bellevue Hospital as an emotionally disturbed person.

It is unclear if Fimone jumped from the 86th floor of the 102-story building intentionally. Fimone is now facing charges of reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, New York Police Department Detective Mark Nell told ABC News.
