Larry Beck rang up the Wolcott Police Saturday complaining about the rock, which crashed through his roof, ceiling and cracked his kitchen floor Friday night.
"It sounded like a gunshot but it was louder bang," Beck told WAFB. "We looked up and saw the ceiling coming down and broke away the sheet rock in the dining room."
Fortunately, no one was in the room when outer space decided to hurl a fastball at Beck's home.
Officials at the Yale Peabody Museum that the rock was indeed a meteorite, not, as Beck suspected, a piece of airport runway from the nearby Bradley International or Oxford Airport dropped from a plane.
"It sounded like a gunshot, but it was louder, a bang," Beck said. Many neighbors also said they heard a loud noise.
"For this to crash through, asphal shingles, the roof, smash copper pipe, crack a ceiling before it came to a rest, you know, it was moving very quickly," said Wolcott Police Chief Edward Stephens.
