Magic Johnson's 20-year-old son, EJ, was spotted holding hands with his boyfriend while out on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles on Monday, and his famous dad couldn't be prouder.
Earvin Johnson III, known as EJ, is a student at NYU and had not previously made his sexuality public. The news, however, isn't a surprise to his parents.
"Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way," Magic Johnson told TMZ. "We're very proud of him."
Magic, who spent his storied career with the LA Lakers and now holds a stake in the Dodgers, has not shied away from speaking out on California's fight over gay rights and same-sex marriage.
In 2008, ahead of the vote on Proposition 8, he called for Californians to defeat the measure.
"Prop 8 singles out one group of Californians to be treated differently -- including members of our family, our friends, and our coworkers," he said in a recorded telephone message sent to California voters. "That is not what California is about. So this Tuesday, vote no on Proposition 8. It is unfair and wrong. Thanks."
