The Washington Post's Al Kamen reported Thursday that Chief Justice John Roberts was spotted using cash to buy his usual morning coffee at a Starbucks in suburban Maryland. He usually charges the pick-me-up drink, but had to cancel his credit card after someone stole his account information.
The Huffington Post confirmed the report. An employee apparently overheard Roberts say that the suspect used his card in Kentucky.
We can confirm that John Roberts is the victim of credit card fraud. A Huffpost employee overheard him say this at a barber shop yesterday— Sam Stein (@samsteinhp) March 28, 2013
But Roberts undoubtedly had his hands full with other matters this week. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments over Proposition 8, California's ban on same-sex marriage, and the federal Defense of Marriage Act. The justices are expected to hand down their decisions in June.
