"The rumors are true. Doritos Locos Tacos are becoming Doritos chips," Doritos said on its Facebook page Monday. The company's partnership with Taco Bell -- which produced a line of Taco Bell tacos flavored like Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch Doritos -- proved so popular last year that Taco Bell hired 15,000 people to "handle the growth." According to the Daily Beast, Taco Bell sold a million Doritos Locos Tacos per day in 2012.
Frito-Lay was so inspired by the success of its Doritos-Taco Bell line, they've created a series of Doritos Locos taco-flavored chips, headed for shelves April 8.
Doritos made the announcement Monday over Twitter:
The company also launched a Twitter contest
asking users to come up with "bold" things they would do for Doritos Locos Tacos chips. The lucky winner had better be hungry, because he or she will receive 132 11-ounce bags of Doritos Locos Tacos tortilla chips.
