Father kills son, self, wounds wife during heated custody argument

A Pennsylvania father killed his 2-year-old son, injured his estranged wife, shot at -- and missed -- his mother and finally killed himself Saturday, during a heated custody argument.

The Examiner reports the father died from the self inflicted wounds, while the wife is expected to survive after being shot in the face, legs and arms. The man's mother was luckily unharmed.

Huntingdon County authorities identified the man as Kenneth Ayers, 52.

Kenneth Ayers had separated from his wife Hollie Jo Ayers, who had filed a "protection from abuser order" against him that allowed him to visit the couple's son, Michael.

The incident occurred during one of the visits when Kenneth Ayers pulled out a gun during a fight between the two in his mother's home in Barree Township.

The man allegedly opened fire against his mother, Hollie Jo Ayers and his son. He wounded his estranged wife in the arms, legs and face and killed the child.

After the shooting, Kenneth Ayers took his son's dead body, put him in his pick-up truck and drove away. He eventually took his own life. Police found him dead miles away in a deserted area of Warriors Mark Township.
