March 22 (UPI) -- NBC's "Today" show nabbed the first interview with convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky since the former Penn State football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of child sex abuse and sentenced to 60 years in prison last year.

"The former longtime defensive coordinator will describe what he says happened on the campus, and what he thinks of whistleblower Mike McQueary and late head coach Joe Paterno," the "Today" show said of the interview, which was shot in prison and is set to air Monday.

“He’ll describe in his own words what he says happened on the Penn State campus,” Matt Lauer said on Friday's episode.

Sandusky did not come off well in his last interview in 2011, in which he told "Rock Center's" Bob Costas that his interest in "connecting" with young people might have been "misinterpreted."

"I worked very hard to try to connect with them. To make them feel good about themselves. To be something significant in their lives. Maybe this gets misinterpreted, has gotten depending on. … I know a lot of young people where it hasn't.

And I didn't go around seeking out every young person for sexual needs that I've helped. There are many that I didn't have -- I hardly had any contact with who I have helped in many, many ways."
