Footage of Stephanie Wilkerson, the Hillsborough County bus driver who kicked an autistic girl off a bus last year, emerged Thursday.
On September 28, 2012 Tampa police say Wilkerson, 42, got mad and kicked an 8-year-old autistic girl off the bus after the child threw a tantrum when she was told to wait her turn to get off the bus, WFLA reported.
Cameras mounted on the bus recorded the incident and show the girl standing by the bus door. Several minutes later Wilkerson is seen kicking the girl off the bus. The fall broke the girl's ankle.
Wilkerson was terminated in January and is now facing aggravated child abuse charges.
Steve Hegarty from the Hillsborough County school district said that any contact with a student that results in injury is taken very seriously.
"You are the adult you have to show restraint to are held to a very high standard... and pushing a student where they fall off the bus and injure themselves...it is obviously beyond anything they are allowed to do," Hegarty said.
