[VIDEO] Lisa Rinna on 'Today': 'My lips have had their own career'

Sometimes there's no avoiding the elephant in the room.

"What's going on with your lips?" "Today" co-host Hoda Kotb asked about three minutes into a conversation about Lisa Rinna's ongoing stint on "Celebrity Apprentice."

Rinna looked taken by Kotb's question, but explained that she and a friend received silicon injections when they were 24, inspired by the movie "Beaches."

"So then cut to a couple of years ago, I have a doctor remove as much as they possibly can because it got to the point where they were yucky. You know, they get hard. I mean it's gross. They are now whatever that was after they took out as much of the silicone as they could."

Rinna added that she didn't really regret her famously large pout.

"I never had a career before I had the lips. So my lips have had their own career!" the 49-year-old former soap star said. "Without my lips, I would have had a different career."

"I find it so interesting that it had become such a big thing," Rinna added. "Because I can't tell you how many girls have done their lips. I feel like I'm a pioneer."
