The two girls, ages 15 and 16, made the threats toward the 16-year-old victim on Facebook and Twitter. Although they were discovered Sunday afternoon, it is unclear when they were posted. WRTF TV reported that one of the girls turned herself in to authorities while the other was arrested.
"Let me be clear. Threatening a teenage rape victim will not be tolerated," Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said in a statement. "If anyone makes a threat verbally or via the internet, we will take it seriously, we will find you, and we will arrest you."
The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated menacing for threatening the victim's life on Twitter, DeWine said. The 15-year-old was facing one count of menacing for threatening harm to the victim on Facebook.
Both were being held at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center until their appearance in court on Tuesday.
