Police were investigating an apparent suicide after a body was found just after midnight Monday in a University of Central Florida dorm. A fire alarm was pulled when the body was discovered, prompting a building evacuation.

Residents were sent to the Student Union and told members of the University Counseling Center would be available.

An alert was sent to students about two hours later, saying there was no threat to the campus community. Officials said the death was apparently caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The student newspaper Central Florida Future reports the gun found was an assault rifle.

Police then found a bag of homemade explosives just before 5 am, and said students won't be allowed back into the dorm for several hours while Orange County Bomb Squad investigates. University officials have so far cancelled classes on the main campus until noon.
