A swarm of bees killed a five-year-old female pit-bull in North Hollywood, Calif. on Saturday.

The incident occurred after a neighbor cut down a tree that housed a beehive provoking the insects in the Los Angeles neighborhood, Fox 5 San Diego reported.

When residents weren't able to contain the bee swarm they contacted the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters used a combination of foam and water to dispose of as many bees as possible.

“We’ve all got kids and dogs,” a neighbor told KTLA. “Luckily, they didn’t hurt any kids, but it’s terrible they hurt a dog.”

The owners of the dog did not want to speak on camera, but told KTLA they would never have expected something like this to happen.
