The 5-foot-long shark passed away inside an above-ground pool at a home in California where the commercial was being shot. The Examiner reports the cartilaginous fish exhibited signs of distress as actors jumped in and out of the pool where the shark was.
Production was allegedly shut down as the shark became agitated and care takers shot him with adrenaline and provided oxygen in an attempt to save him. The fish died that same day.
The shark's death has fueled the fire in PETA's and other animal rights organizations' fight against using animals in commercials.
