Even though "Big Bang" is currently the second most-watched show on television, this wasn't always the case. In fact, when the sitcom made its debut at the PaleyFest in 2009 it didn't even place in the domestic top 40 category, the Examiner reported. The cast and crew thank syndication for the significant increase in viewership.
"You're kind of forced to watch the show now," joked actor Simon Helberg. "We're shoving it down people's throats, and then they're learning that they love that."
When local stations and cable networks began airing re-runs of the show in 2011, it was hard to turn on the TV and not catch en episode of "Big Bang" playing. Slowly but surely the show built up a loyal fan base that currently brings more than 20 million viewers per episode and turned the show into the most coveted TV spot for advertisers.
Jim Parsons, who plays genius Sheldon Cooper on the show, still has a hard time grasping the show's popularity.
"There's something impossible to fathom about viewers and numbers and things like that," Parsons explained. "I can barely picture 20 people in one room. If you want to say 17 or 18 million, well you've lost me."
Co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, who also attended PaleyFest, looked to keep the audience intrigued by hinting to an upcoming plot-twist without giving too much away.
"I think that Sheldon will probably still be sitting in his spot," Helberg began. "It may be in a different apartment. I think he'll sit in that spot until he's in a home. Howard and Bernadette probably will ... God, God help them if they have children. We know she hates them and we know that Howard, essentially, is a child. So I wish them luck."
