BluePearl Veterinary Partners, who removed $1.11 worth of "loot" from the stomach Jack Kelleher, a 13-year-old Jack Russell terrier, announced the successful recovery in a release detailing the "robbery."
"The investigation is closed and charges will not be filed against a Manhattan burglar who ingested 111 pennies Saturday," said BluePearl spokesman James Judge. "The Jack Russell terrier almost made a clean getaway until the heavy plunder caused him to develop and upset stomach and vomit, which exposed some of the evidence."
Dr. Amy Zalcman, a senior BluePearl surgeon who oversaw Jack's procedure said quick action probably saved Jack's life.
“Early and safe removal was absolutely imperative to Jack’s health," she said. “If Jack would not have had the pennies removed, the consequences would have been fatal.”
Dr. Suliman Al-Ghazlat completed the operation, removing the pennies five at a time through endoscopy.
