Ramirez, who spent most of his Major League career with the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox, hasn't played professionally since 2011.
The slugger served a 50-game suspension for steroid use in 2009 while playing for the LA Dodgers, and was facing a 100-game suspension from the Tampa Bay Rays when he decided to retire.
The deal with EDA, in Kaohsiung, confirmed by Ramirez's agent Barry Praver, is for $25,000 per month for the season, running May through November.
The 40-year-old slugger is considered one of the greatest hitters of all time, knocking in 555 home runs, 21 grand slams and appearing in 12 consecutive All-Star games.
Ramirez could potentially leverage his season in Kaohsiung into a job in the Japanese league or a potential, though unlikely, return to the U.S. game.
