According to a State Department official, Venezuela's second secretary Jose Orlando Montanez Olivares and consular officer Victor Camacaro Mata left the country on Sunday after being declared "persona non grata."
The State Department said the diplomats' expulsion was an adequate response to Venezuela's action to expel U.S. attache David Del Monaco from the country last Tuesday, and not a reaction to any specific misconduct from either of the two diplomats.
Del Monaco was expelled on March 5, the same day that Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez was announced dead, accused of trying to form an anti-government military plot.
The U.S. government has said it's looking forward to repairing its relationship with Venezuela, a proposition tied to the results of the country's presidential elections set for April 14.
