A California man was arrested Thursday after allegedly putting eye drops in his girlfriend's drink during a fight.

Shayne Carpenter, 27, was arrested by Nevada County Sheriffs in Grass Valley, Calif., when his girlfriend, whose name has not been released, became ill after a fight when he allegedly put Visine in her drink.

Carpenter was booked on domestic violence and poisoning charges and released on $25,000 bail Friday.\

Nevada County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Tripp told ABC News Carpenter's girlfriend saw suspicious text messages on his phone and contacted the police.

"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,'" Tripp told KXTV, the Sacramento-area ABC affiliate.

Tripp said Carpenter admitted to the poisoning over the phone.

Carpenter's girlfriend was treated at a hospital and released, officials said.
