Deadline reported Friday that actress Mandy Moore left ABC's single-camera comedy pilot, "Pulling," based on the 2006 British series of the same name, after producers decided to take Moore's character in a "different direction."

“Mandy is a pro, and has been very patient and accommodating with us,” the show's producers said.

"As we moved closer to production, it was clear we needed to go in a different direction for the character, and Mandy agreed to do what was best for the show. She’s an immensely gifted actress and we hope to have the pleasure of working with her again."

"Pulling" is the story of three 30-something roommates who come together after one of them breaks off her wedding. The 28-year-old Moore would have starred opposite June Diane Raphael and Jenny Slate as a desperate husband-hunter.

Moore said "it was clear" that she needed to leave.

"Many things change quickly as a pilot moves into production. And in this case, Lee and Gene moved the character in a different direction, it was clear this wasn't right for me. Rather than jeopardize the show, I asked to step aside. They and ABC were very accommodating, and wish them all the best in the fall. It’s a terrific show that worked so well in the UK, I hope it gets the audience it deserves here."

"Pulling" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky also wrote the Justin Timberlake-Cameron Diaz comedy "Bad Teacher."
