Jolie-Pitt wine sells out in five hours

The Perrin family spokesman says the first 6,000 bottles put on sale online Thursday were bought within five hours.

The Miraval Rose 2012 was produced at the southern French estate of Chateau Miraval.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt forked over $60 million on a three-year lease of the estate. The 500-hectare (about 1200-acre) summer home includes a 40-hectare (about 100-acre) vineyard, and the first wines bearing the famous couple's name became available Thursday.

Pitt and Jolie partnered with the Perrin family of vintners to create and market 100,000 bottles of Miraval wine that will be sold to independent wine shops and restaurants. The first 6,000 bottles of the 2012 Miraval Rose sold out in just five hours. The wine was offered exclusively on the Miraval-Provence website at $139 per six-bottle case.

"With this 2012 rose, Miraval reveals the extraordinary potential of wines from Provence. This unique terroir naturally expresses itself in the aromatic wine with a round mouth feel that is full of freshness," the Perrin family stated.

The wide bottle with the black and gold label makes only one mention of the Hollywood stars, on the back label, where it reads, "bottled by Jolie-Pitt and Perrin." Miraval is expected to follow up its rose with a red and a white wine.

Marc Perrin, of the family that partnered with Jolie-Pitt, said in February that the couple were involved in the production process and wanted to do more than "just put their name" on the label.
