Oliwia Dabrowska, who played the girl in red in Steven Spielberg's Holocaust movie, "Schindler’s List," said the first time she saw the film she was horrified and embarrassed of her role in it.

Dabrowska was only 3-years-old when she appeared in the movie as the iconic girl in red who walked amidst a chaotic Nazi prosecution scene that took place in Poland during World War II. Despite Spielberg's suggestion to wait until she was 18 to watch the film, the Polish actress watched it at age 11 and ended up feeling completely traumatized, The Guardian Reported.

"It was too horrible. I could not understand much, but I was sure that I didn't want to watch ever again in my life," Dabrowska told the British newspaper. "I was ashamed of being in the movie and really angry with my mother and father when they told anyone about my part."

In time, Dabrowska came to understand and appreciate her role in the Oscar-winning film. She told the Guardian she decided to revise the movie as an 18-year-old and realized she "had been part of something [she] could be proud of."

The red coat girl is the one technicolor character in an otherwise black and white film. She is featured during an intense scene that portrays the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto, in which she walks down the street as German soldiers annihilate civilians.
