The FBI released 128 pages of documents on Houston following a Freedom of Information (FOIA) request, including a 1992 letter in which a woman demanded $100,000 in order to keep "certain details" of Houston's "romantic relationships" private.
In interviews with Houston, her father and lawyers, the singer referred to the woman as "a friend" with whom she "did discuss personal things."
The documents indicate a payment -- the amount is blacked out -- was sent to the so-called friend along with a confidentiality agreement, and the case was closed soon after.
Other documents contained in the FBI files include fan letters the singer found cause for concern, including those from a crazed man who wrote almost 70 letters and threatened "some crazy or stupid or really dumb idea" to catch her attention.
Houston died in February 2012 from an accidental drowning precipitated by drug use.
