Filmed in a mockumentary style, new comedy "Derek" stars and was written and directed by Ricky Gervais, creator of "The Office" and "Extras." The show is set in an old people's home and centers on an assistant, Derek, played by Gervais. The show portrays the home's workers and residents as unhappy outsiders who struggle in life and are unwanted by the rest of society. Derek likes reality television, celebrities and Youtube, but still says it is more important to be kind than to be clever or good-looking.

Many of Gervais's standup specials have appeared in the U.S. on HBO. Of the deal with Netflix, Gervais said in a statement last September, “Netflix is the future. TV habits have already changed drastically over the last 10 years and this is the next phase. People want their favorite shows on demand whether they are homegrown or not.”

In a tweet Wednesday he reassured U.S. fans that Derek would be coming in April, but joked that he didn't mind if they "somehow" found another way to view the show.
