New York's FOX 5 reported Tuesday that a 20-year-old tourist from Victoria, Australia was raped after getting out of her cab near Madison Avenue and East 59th Street over the weekend.

According to the New York Post, the victim had just left the trendy Lavo nightclub, and was returning to her hotel when a man grabbed her and dragged her into an alleyway.

Police described the attacker as a 35 to 40-year-old black man, around 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds.

Local resident Donald Beldock told CBS that such attacks were rare in the area.

"That's pretty shocking because this is a well maintained neighborhood and incidents of that nature don't usually happen," he said.
