Naturally, tickets for Franklin's last high school state meet have sold, as the stadium only seats 900 and 90 percent of the seats are allocated to schools.
Franklin, who is a senior at Regis Jesuit High in Aurora, Colo. won four gold medals at the 2012 Olympics, two individual and two from relays, as well as a bronze medal for another relay.
The decision to continue to compete at the high school level even though she's an Olympic medalist was Franklin's.
“Just because a swimmer competes in the Olympics doesn't mean that she has left childhood and high school behind,” said Bert Borgmann, the assistant commissioner of the Colorado High School Athletic Assn. “Most look at this unique situation as a positive experience for the competitors. It's hard for some folks to remember that Missy is a 17-year-old who wants to do the same things that her friends do and be part of the team and have fun doing it."
Franklin will bring her powerful strokes to Berkeley next year, where she'll swim for the California school.
