Hasbro Inc. announced the token trade Wednesday after a heated final stretch of voting. After an online voting campaign that began in January, fans canned the iron token and voted in a cat. Games featuring the new cat token will begin selling this summer.

Scottie the dog was the clear favorite among classic tokens, but in the final hours the iron was in close competition. Shoe and wheelbarrow fans rallied to keep their favorites in the game, and so the iron retires. Fans voting on which new token to introduce decided on a cat — the spirit animal of the internet — fitting since voting took place online. This led to some very sad fans of the proposed toy robot token. The other choices were a guitar, helicopter and diamond ring.

Eric Nyman, senior vice president and global brand leader for Hasbro Gaming, said in a statement, "While we're a bit sad to see the iron go, the cat token is a fantastic choice by the fans and we have no doubt it will become just as iconic as the original tokens."
