It may have looked like a wardrobe malfunction, but Lawrence's Christian Dior gown didn't actually rip when she walked onstage to accept her award for Best Female Actor in a Film at Sunday night's Screen Actor's Guild Awards.

When the 22-year-old actress walked up to the stage, her navy, Dior dress appeared to split open directly across her thigh, prompting social media users and fashion experts to cry "wardrobe malfunction!"

Here's the incident in GIF form:

But according to E! News, Lawrence's dress had mesh lining connecting the fabric of the two-tiered gown, which separated briefly when she walked up the stairs.

Once she was approaching the stage to get her award, the combination of her pulling up on the top part of the dress and possibly having the train stuck on a heel (or something) revealed the sheer lining in between.

Lawrence, whose amazing acceptance speeches this season have belied her young age, kept her composure, thanking MTV for hiring her for the first job that earned her a SAG card.
