VIDEO: Joe Biden suggests buying a shotgun in case of earthquake

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Why own an assault weapon, when a shotgun will do just fine?

That's what Vice President Joe Biden said during his Google+ "Fireside Hangout" on gun control Thursday, in response to a question about critics who feel that assault weapons will protect them in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

A shotgun would keep you a lot safer -- a double barrel shotgun -- than the assault weapon in somebody's hand who doesn't know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it.

It's harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun. So, if you want to keep people away in an earthquake, buy some shotgun shells.

Acting as the president's right-hand man when it comes to gun control, Biden's web conversation came a week after he and Barack Obama rolled out 23 executive actions -- on mental health, school safety, law enforcement and background checks -- that they hope will curb gun violence.
