The New York Daily News reported Thursday morning that Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who allegedly perpetrated the Manti Te'o fake dead girlfriend hoax, had impersonated "Lennay Kekua" using a "falsetto voice" in phone calls to the Notre Dame football star.

"It was Ronaiah as Lennay," Tuiasosopo's lawyer Milton Grimes told the paper, though he said his client had no intention of making fun of Te'o.

"It was establishing a communication with someone. ... It was a person with a troubled existence trying to reach out and communicate and have a relationship," Grimes said of Tuiasosopo.

Ahead of her interview with the Te'o, Katie Couric's talk show released three of the voicemails the football star received from Kekua.

"Hi, just let me know you've got here. And I'm getting ready for my first session. Just wanted to call, keep you posted. I miss you, I love you. Bye," Kekua says.

According to Hypervocal, Tuiasosopo auditioned for "The Voice" last year, where he falsely told the judges his band had been involved in car accident. You can hear Tuiasosopo's real talking voice in one of his YouTube videos.
