Oscar is not your usual shoplifter. He's just a hungry three legged dog who couldn't help it but to steal a couple of dog treats from Alray Dairy, a local store in New Zealand, 3News reported.

“About 12 minutes past eight we caught him on the camera. All of a sudden he appears standing looking into the dog chiller, helps himself to a dog roll, drops it on the floor then picks it up and carts it out,” owner Esmay Hay said.

For his crime, Oscar has been sent to the animal shelter until his owners are found.

The 10-year-old German short-haired pointer committed the blunder that landed him behind bars after he escaped from the tutelage of friends who were caring for him while his owners went on vacation. And lucky for him, the store owners have decided not to press charges.

"You couldn’t be wild with him, you couldn’t be angry with him... No charges, he wouldn’t have a leg to stand on,” Hay said laughing.

On the contrary, the family seems to be determined to help Oscar.

“My daughter’s had a Facebook page up, with 300 hits on it saying they want to give [him] a home, so I’m sure there’s somebody out there if the owner doesn’t want him,” Hay said.
