A month after 20 of their schoolmates were brutally killed a group of students from Sandy Hook Elementary gathered to record "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with singer Ingrid Michaelson.

A group of 21 Sandy Hook singers, with the help of their music teacher Sabrina Post, gathered around the microphones at the home of former Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth.

The song is on sale on Amazon and iTunes, with the proceeds benefiting Newtown Youth Academy and United Way of Western Connecticut.

"Music has the power to heal both the listener and the performers," said CBGB owner Tim Hayes, who produced the song, in a statement. "The new arrangement of the song feels as if the young angelic adult voice, Ingrid's, is almost teaching the song to the children."

"First she introduces it to them, then she is joined by an innocent, yet strong chorus of voices and by the end of the song it is only the children that we hear," he said. "In fact, the children were asked to sing the song as if it was a prayer. That emotion really comes though when the children sing their 'oooos,' which transforms the recording into something truly spiritual."

Michaelson and the children performed the song on Good Morning America Tuesday.

The following video is a behind-the-scenes look at the recording.
