Everybody does something that "seemed like a good idea at the time," but later... maybe not so much.

Jimmy Kimmel cornered Ryan Gosling during his interview Wednesday, asking him if he had randomly handed strangers boxes of Girl Scout cookies from his car and then drove off.

"My friend Daniel and his wife, Diane... said that they were about to get on the freeway in Santa Monica, and you pulled up next to them--or somebody who looked like you--pulled up next to them and handed them several boxes of Girl Scout cookies and then drove off," Jimmy Kimmel said. "And as you drove off, Daniel said, 'I think that was Ryan Gosling,' and his wife said, 'Yeah, I think that was Ryan Gosling.'"

"So was that Ryan Gosling?" Kimmel asked.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Gosling said, looking a bit sheepish. "Look, I regret it."

"At the time I thought, this must be what Santa Clause feels like," he added. "And then I looked at this one person who's looking at me and I realized that through their eyes, I was not Santa Clause, I was just this creepy cookie guy."

Gosling said he still "has a bunch" of the cookies.

No word on whether he's a Thin Mint guy or a Samoas guy.
