Labradoodle mistaken for lion in Virginia

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Reports of a Virginia Zoo lion on the loose in Norfolk, Va., Wednesday turned out to be false when a zoo spokesman confirmed that all the big cats were safely locked away. Instead, the "lion" turned out to be Charles the Monarch, a creatively coiffed Labradoodle whose fur has been shaved to resemble Big Blue, Old Dominion University's mascot.

Charles the Monarch is a popular "Lab-a-lion" -- as his owner sometimes calls him -- he has more than 24,000 likes on Facebook.
