Jan. 9 (UPI) -- The bush fires ravaging Australia are so massive that Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield can see them from space.

Over the last several days, the social-media savvy Hadfield has snapped photos of the wildfires from the International Space Station, where he's been tweeting up a storm since he boarded the satellite in December.

According to the Daily Mail, extremely high temperatures (sometimes more than 120 degrees) and strong winds fueled the fires.

Hadfield has kept Earth-bound space fans up-to-date with his adventures aboard the ISS via his very active personal Twitter account. Besides capturing photos of Earth, Hadfield recorded a holiday song in space and traded "Star Trek" witticisms with fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and actors William Shatner, Leonard Nemoy and Wil Wheaton.
