Hillary Clinton's co-workers presented her with a protective football helmet and jersey on her first day back at work after a December stomach flu and fainting led to a concussion and blood clot in her brain.

Politics is a contact sport, one State Department staffer joked.

If she ends up running for president in 2016, she'll definitely need the helmet.

According to NBC News, Clinton received a standing ovation from aides who presented her with the helmet -- a joke reference to the fall that resulted in a concussion -- and a jersey. The jersey's number, 112, represents the number of countries Clinton has visited in her four years as secretary of state.

"When she walked in the room, she had a standing ovation from 75 people assembled," State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Monday.
