If the residents of Michigan suddenly found themselves all stateless, all at once on New Year's Day, they've got Jadeveon Clowney to blame.

The 19-year-old defensive back playing for the University of South Carolina tackled Michigan running back Vincent Smith so hard during the Outback Bowl, he launched himself into instant fame--and apparently took the whole Wolverine State with him.

For a few brief, glorious minutes, the Wikipedia page for Clowney read:

In the Outback Bowl, Clowney obliterated the entire state of Michigan when he hit Wolverines' running back Vincent Smith and forced a fumble. There are now only 49 states in the United States and Roger Goodell has suspended Clowney for the first game of his NFL career.

A search through the page's history also reveals, at various times on Thursday, "Chuck Norris is even scared of this mofo" and "Clowney hit Vincent Smith so hard he knocked his soul out of his back.."

Unfortunately, the crowdsourced editors at Wikipedia have less of a sense of humor about the whole thing (or maybe they're just Michigan fans), so the satirical passages quickly disappeared.

The state of Michigan, so far as we can tell, still exists.

Watch the now world famous hit, which South Carolina defensive tackle J.T. Surratt said "sounded like a car wreck," that turned the game momentum in the Gamecock's favor and led to the 33-28 victory.
