Before Current TV, the struggling progressive media network founded by Al Gore, sold themselves to al-Jazeera for a hefty $500 million, they rejected an offer from Glenn Beck's media company, TheBlaze.

Beck tweeted Wednesday:

If you have a hard time believing that a conservative commentator would actually want a company partly owned by environmental activist and former vice president Gore, one source told The Wall Street Journal that TheBlaze actually did approach Current Media last year.

"Glenn Beck's The Blaze approached Current about buying the channel last year, but was told that 'the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view,' according to a person familiar with the negotiations," reported The Wall Street Journal (via The Atlantic).

But al-Jazeera does, according to Current co-founder Joel Hyatt, who explained in a letter to employees that the Qatar-owned Arab news network shared their company's mission "to give voice to those whose voices are not typically heard" and "to speak truth to power."
