Police got more than they bargained for while responding to reports of a man with an assault rifle on New Year's Day.

Coco Bennett, 29, was while naked and wielding a 'samurai-type' sword midday Tuesday after a standoff with San Jose, Calif., cops on the side of the road, NBC Bay Area reported.

Bennett reportedly gave chase to police responding to reports he was standing in front of a San Jose home with an assault rifle, jumping into his car and driving away.

When police pulled him over, he got out of the car and started yelling, "You're going to have to kill me," while waving a large sword, police said.

San Jose Police Department's Crisis Intervention Team was called to the scene, and a standoff lasted for about three hours before Bennett was arrested.

Police said they recovered a AR-15-type rifle and that that Bennett would be evaluated by doctors.
